Cordeaux Pupils Experience Work at GRS Electrical

Friday, 13th July 2012 Cordeaux Pupils Experience Work at GRS Electrical

Its that time of year when hundreds of 15 year olds are released from school 'into the community' in order to experience the world of work, in many cases, for the first time. GRS Electrical Services were happy to do our bit and have had three pupils from Cordeaux School with us for two weeks. Poppy Lowis, Charley Mills and Liam Good helped both our electricians in the field and the girls in the office with the day to day duties their roles require.

Liam and Charley were tasked to help our Small Works Team with their clients and Poppy spent time both in the office helping with the administration and out and about with her camera, helping to get our new website up and running.

Charley spent his Work Experience with our electrician Steve Knights. He reported that Charley got on really well with our customers and had a good knowledge of the tools and equipment an electrician would need to use - he has obviously learned a lot from the 'sparky' in his family!

Liam split his two weeks by spending time both out in the field with electrician, Simon Short and in the office with our Small Works Manager, Derek Hunt. Liam showed great initiative and impressed us all here with his enthusiasm - he really made an effort to learn about the role. As well as being polite and amiable with our customers, he showed great initiative in the office, helping Derek with the initial stages of estimating contracts.

Poppy was also tasked with two different roles during her time here. She started work helping the admin team with invoicing, checking deliveries, inputting data into our accounts package and sending e-mails and letters. She even conquered her fears and answered the phones for us! She took the bull by the horns with every task given to her except one - the most important job in any office - Making a cuppa!!

During her second week, Poppy's artistic flair was called upon to help with some of the photography for the new GRS website. She showed a keen interest in the subject and was really enthusiastic about working with Clare in Sales and Marketing to help with this. Poppy went out and about with Clare, visiting completed projects and even edited her pictures at home for us - she went above and beyond the call of duty.

All of the candidates from Cordeaux represented their school fantastically well, the trait which both surprised and impressed us most however, was their confidence. It definately shows that the changes in children today are not all negative and those we had with us here, we're sure will have a very bright future in anything they decide to do.

Definately a tough act to follow for next year.......
