Castle Brewery, Newark
The four refurbished apartments within this listed building are accessed through the original vaulted brewery archway, where a grand chandelier adorns the wooden paneled main entrance hall leading to two ground floor apartments. An elegant, sweeping staircase ascends to the first floor leading to the two other apartments, one of which features a magnificent vaulted ceiling and a feature staircase to the clock tower.
The former malt-houses and stables for the company dray horses, were simple and unassuming workshop buildings, and have been sympathetically restored to form six spacious cottages, which have south facing views over the courtyard. The largest of the apartments is an unusual ‘upside down’ two bedroom property, where the master bedroom suite, second bedroom and main bathroom are located on the ground floor, while an extensive living area with balcony and the kitchen are on the level above.
The Gatehouse, overlooking the central courtyard and situated adjacent to the original entrance gates that will become a feature of the development, comprises a selection of two bedroom apartments and cottages.
One of the cottages was originally the washroom and is unique in the fact that is oblong in shape.
The Brewhouse dominates the whole of the site and contains 27 duplex and spilt-level apartments, together with a magnificent penthouse which has panoramic views over Newark’s skyline to the countryside and beyond. Many original features have been retained.
